Empordia in Catalonia used to be known only for its tourist rosado made from Cariñena, today the area has fully taken advantage of the unique terrain range from the Mediterranean coast to the subalpine climate to the North, and produces a vast range of grapes.

Made from a highly unusual blend of 60% Grenache Blanc, 30% Muscat de Alexandria and Muscat de Frontignan, 5% Grenache Gris and 5% Chardonnay in Costa Brava, Verd Albera has a very interesting style with lots of spicy & citrus fruit and a smoky minerality.
Whilst still crisp and dry, there is a richness and the muscat in no way dominates. Tropical fruit and white flower notes are present along with a touch of white pepper.
It goes very well with salads and smoked fish, also meatier fish such as monkfish or light pork dishes. At Gauthier Soho, it is currently served with our Slow Baked North Atlantic Cod.

Currently listed at the hugely respected and pioneering London Spanish restaurant Moro (£26.00 a bottle) and Farringdon wine-lover’s stalwart Quality Chop House (£23).
