6x Le Picatier 'Cuvée 100%' 2013

Gamay is obviously famous for being the grape of Beaujolais, but it's also the grape of choice for fantastic local wines produced near Roanne. One such vineyard is Domaine du Picatier, the project of Christophe and Géraldine Pialoux, who took over the estate in 2007. Christophe having previously studied at the lycée viticole in Beaune and worked extensively for Maison Drouhin.

Says Jancis Robinson in her 'World Atlas of Wines': "The vineyards, on south and southeast facing slopes of the Loire near Roanne, enjoy a granite base, and several individual domaines here can produce wines that have the same refreshing integrity as Beaujolais in its purest form"

'Cuvée 100%' is the kind of organic wine you might expect to find in good restaurants around Roanne served with seasonal dishes of delicately flavoured fish and meat.
This wine is a real find, which due to production values and scale, rarely finds its way out of the immediate vicinity.

A reasonably low (10.5%) alcohol content is boosted by exciting 'zing' of delicate acidity and a touch of fine fizz, with a pepperiness similar to a much stronger Syrah or similar.

We've seen it on the wine list recently at London's Terroir and Raw Duck (at £32.50 per bottle). Currently served with the Wild Sea Trout, Courgette, Tomato Concassé & Crispy Garlic, Spring Onion & Fish Sauce dish on the Gauthier Soho A la Carte menu (yes, a red wine with a fish dish!).

Gauthier Wines can offer you Le Picatier Cuvée 100% 2013 for £12.85 per bottle.
