6x Domaine de Nizas, Le Mazet de Sallèles, Languedoc 2011
The Chateau Domaine de Nizas is located in the South of France near the medieval town of Pézenas in the heart of the historic Languedoc region. Originally created in 1998 by the Franco-American John Goelet and his trusted adviser Bernard Portet, whose family have been winemakers since the 1600s. Their goal was to create exceptional wines from the rich diversity of the estate’s three terroirs: limestone, basalt and villafranchian (river pebbles).
The red they have produced is Le Mazet de Sallèles, a gold medal winner from the Parisian Ministry of Agriculture and Food and a silver medal winner from the Féminalise Beaune. Le Mazet is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Syrah (40%) which are 100% estate grown grapes. Le Mazet de Sallèles is a light-to-medium bodied wine revealing an intense bouquet of red fruit, spices and woody notes, due to its maturation in oak. Its fruity character is accompanied by a good structure, silky soft tannins and a long pleasant finish, which will pair perfectly with rare or delicately roasted red meats.
