6x Château St Cyrgues Saint Cirice 2015

Syrah / Merlot / Grenache • VDP Du Gard • 13% Vol • £11/Bottle

Situated only twenty kilometres from Alexis’ home town of Avignon, Château Saint Cyrgues is situated the village of Saint-Gilles in the Costières de Nimes appellation, in the Southern Rhone valley.

This is the ‘gateway to Provence’, where to the east, the hills of the Luberon are dotted with luxurious second homes, and southwest, the Costières de Nimes borders Eastern Languedoc.

Saint Cirice is a cherry-hued red wine, spicy and rich, with great concentration. Its terroir is ‘galets roulés’, the same pebbles which host Chateauneuf du Pape. The Syrah gives a tangy pepperiness which balances the bitter char in barbecued meat and roasted tomatoes - warming, punchy and gutsy.
Fruity Grenache offers a long finish, with hints of vanilla and wild herbs.

This is a super wine to crack open mid-way through the sizzle of a summer barbecue, and will also be a lovely bottle to keep for a couple of days with a cork in, enjoying a glass on its own on a warm evening.

Spotted as the only VDP Du Gard at the famous BALTHAZAR in Covent Garden - a restaurant which does not take chances with its wine list.

At Gauthier Soho we’re suggesting Saint Cirice with the Berkshire Pork Fillet, Confit Apricot, Grelot Onion, Rosemary Pommes Noisettes, Pork Jus.

Only £11 per bottle, so worth buying a few cases.
