Fabulous all-round Italian red - Gauthier Staff Pick
An IGT from the beautiful Veneto wine region known so famously for the Valpolicella, Cecilia Beretta is a small, family-run wine estate, named after the 17th- century estate formerly owned by Count Beretta and acquired by the Pasqua family. Set up in the 1980s as a viticultural research centre by prominent local winemaking family Pasqua, Cecilia Beretta is still owned and run by Pasqua but operates as an entirely separate venture.
Here at Gauthier Soho this characterful Italian red has been somewhat of a ‘go-to’ all-rounder for a few years now, and one of the ‘staff picks’ at the restaurant.
Cecilia Beretta Soraie IGT Veneto is served by the glass with the Deluxe Lunch Menu as we've found to be really adaptable to the daily-changing seasonal dishes. Full bodied enough to stand up to rich jus and soft enough not to overwhelm lighter flavours such as delicate roasted bird. Concentrated velvety tannins, well structured, an intense bouquet of roasted red berries with hints of spices and a soft round finish. A touch of tobacco. Serve at 18-20oC - just below room temperature.
Unsurprisingly, Cecilia Beretta Soraie IGT Veneto is popular with a long list of established wine lists, including L'atelier de Joel Robuchon in Covent Garden, One Lombard Street in The City, and Kensington Palace Restaurant.
