*Please note this is now the 2016 vintage*
Gros Manseng / Petit Courbu • 14% Vol • AOC Pacherenc Du Vic-Bilh Sec
Undoubtedly one of the stars of the Gauthier wine list and quite possibly our most 'asked about' white wine, now finally available to buy via Gauthier Wines. If you're a regular diner at Gauthier Soho and have enjoyed our Deluxe Version Lunch Menu in the last 12 months, you will have undoubtedly tried this delicious dry white wine from Cave de Crouseilles, in the Madiran zone of Pacherenc Du Vic-Bilh Sec Appellation close to the Armagnac in South West France.
'Folie Du Roi' is an homage to Good King Henry IV, celebrated King of Navarre in the early 17th Century - and apt and fitting name as he was born in nearby Pau.
Pacherenc Du Vic-Bilh Sec ic 'more exciting every year' according to Hugh Johnson in his World Atlas of Wine. Often overlooked because of the more famous Counterpart - Jurançon just south of Pau. Its use of Gros Manseng (the Jurançon grape) and Petit Courbu bring a remarkable freshness and dryness.
A young vintage (2016) so the full aroma has yet to be fully revealed. Peachy notes, the middle soft and delicate and featuring the classic rustic finish from the South West with its familiar complexity.
We will continue to feature this wine daily at Gauthier Soho as it's proved itself a really reliable and popular component of the dining room.
Snap up a few cases while you can.
