6x Picpoul de Pinet Domaine de Mirande 2016
Made in the lovely South of France area of Languedoc in the Château de la Mirande, Picpoul de Pinet 2016 is a full-bodied dry white wine with a spicy aniseed bouquet, citrus-scented, green fruits and herbal notes. It also has flavours of iodine, yellow plum and pepper.
The name Pique-poul translates literally as "stings the lip" and is a reference to the grape's natural mouthwateringly high acidity.
Château de la Mirande vines are 30-100 years old and are harvested at night in a traditional and organic way by Albajan family.
Traditionally drunk very chilled with the famous 'huitres' de Bouzygues that are harvested from the adjacent Etang de Thau, this wine simply sings with all seafood. Particularly cold shellfish platters, lobster, crayfish and lightly grilled white fish.
Picpoul de Pinet is a classic sommelier's dream, and relied upon as the fresh, dry seafood match at Soho's Quo Vadis (priced at £23.00), Wimbledon's Light House, Mayfair's Trishna and the Michelin Starred L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon.
