Citrus and zesty, with complex minerality, perfect with all seafood, especially shellfish.
Not many wines answer the brief so perfectly as this. We were looking for a new citrusy white wine to serve with the fish and shellfish here at Gauthier Soho and wanted something with great personality, yet economical. Seafood is not straightforward to match, and the key word is minerality. Iodine notes present in shellfish need to be balanced, and a lemony freshness is always popular to offset pungency.
Domaine de Ménard Cuvée Marine is a family estate IGP Cotes de Gascone white wine from central Gascony in South West France.
The perfect thing about the vineyard is the soil structure, in that the grapes are grown on fossilised oyster shells, granting the fruit with an extra layer of minerality remarkably similar to a good Chablis and Sancerre.
Says Sommelier Aurelie Taheri: "For the price, I’m not sure we’ve ever had a better all-round white wine suited to the seafood courses at Gauthier Soho. Domaine de Ménard has unmatched minerality, leaving us no choice but to offer it with the seafood course in the lunch tasting menu here in the restaurant. A fabulous wine."
Don't just take our word for it, Domaine de Ménard is trusted at such great restaurants at Jason Atherton's Mayfair bistro Little Social, and Corbin & King's legendary The Delaunay in Aldwych.
